I just want to graduate and find a job after graduation.
This was my goal when I was 20 years old, studying in Milan and pursuing a bachelor degree in political science. I wanted to find an office job after graduation and see what life brings to me.
But that did not go as I planned.
In 2015, I had an opportunity to experience life abroad and join the Erasmus program at my University. I travelled to Joensuu, Finland and stayed there for 5 months. That tiny city in the Eastern side of Finland, 8 hours away from Helsinki, the capital city of Finland, changed my life completely.
I realized that I was not meant to stay in Italy, but to leave my beloved home country – to experience a life abroad in Finland, where I could continue my studies and find better opportunities for my future career.
So, in 2017, I flew to Tampere to join the Master’s degree program in Leadership for Change. Here, I have learned how to work in a team, conduct projects in groups and to combine knowledge from business, governance and politics to tame wicked problems. In 2019, I graduated from Tampere University.
During my studies, I did my very first internship at Edunation, a start-up company that helps international students to come to study in Finland. Initially I was supposed to stay there for only 4 months, but I was hired as administrative assistant and finally as an administrative specialist in the company – becoming officially a member of Edunation.
Through this job, I have learnt that Finland is not yet one of the main destinations to pursue a degree, like the USA or UK. Although, Finland has been ranked as one of the best countries to study and to live, there is still so much to do to promote this beautiful and welcoming country to international talents. Finland needs them, needs us. That’s why I am staying.
Tampere is the perfect place to start your studies and pursue a career, as the city has a really strong start-up community and entrepreneurship vibe. There are plenty of opportunities to be discovered and living here is one of the best decision I have ever made.
As a Tampere Talent Ambassador, I hope to contribute to the city and to help other talents during their journey here by sharing my experience and story. You can also find me on YouTube if you want to hear more about my experience in Finland as a foreigner. 😊
