International HUB Tampere -project has reached its midterm. Now it is time to look back and forward together.
International HUB Tampere is a part of the national Talent Boost -programme, which aims at making Finland an attractive country for international talents, facilitating employers in international recruitments and promoting the growth and internationalisation of the Finnish organisations through the diversity of their talents. The City of Tampere, Tampere University community and Pirkanmaa TE-Office are the key organisations operating in International HUB Tampere.
International HUB Tampere creates a service platform and collaboration model in Tampere region to support the companies to grow and internationalise with the potential of international talents and to smoothen the international recruitment process. In addition, the employment, entrepreneurship and integration service paths of the international talents are improved. International HUB Tampere brings companies and international experts together more effectively.
Collaboration is the Key
“We have an amazing team working on reaching the joint goals, and the achievements proves that” says Nuppu Suvanto, the project manager of International HUB Tampere. “The collaboration we have with the universities and TE-office teams has long roots and is very concrete and down-to-earth” adds Nuppu.
Together with the University community team, we are developing a new programme called Study & Stay for all international students degree in Tampere. The goal of the programme is to help international students integrate and find their way into the Finnish working life, making it possible for them to stay here and integrate smoothly in the Finnish society. The piloting will be started in Autumn 2020.
HUB Team has also been actively participating in different events and fairs and even travelled to India last November as a part of Team Finland operations. The aim of the trip was to have university and business meetings and to promote Finland and Tampere as a student, research and technology city.

Furthermore, we have been planning more concrete employer services and actively participating in the national Talent Boost actions. Our monthly Mix & Match networking events for startup-minded people has turned out to be productive along with the Startup Rekry recruitment event, which was piloted last February.
However, Corona spring did bring some challenges to our actions, but also proved our work even more important. Remote working pushed us to enhance the digital services; International Tampere website has been developed to serve its customers better and Talent CV Gallery – local recruitment site for employers and talents, was developed further. Our role in communicating and offering support during the crisis especially for companies and international talents and entrepreneurs was crucial.
A Lot to Look Forward to
“Corona forced us to cancel some events and other actions and to re-evaluate our operations especially considering talent attraction, but it also empowered us to do some out-of-the-box –thinking. We are planning the future with enthusiasm.” comments Nuppu.
And big and important things are under work. The physical international HUB Tampere service centre in Tampere, where all the key organisations are brought together is being planned. Tampere Talent Ambassador programme and Hidden Gems spouse programme will be launched again next Autumn and we are going to organise a campaign targeted to employers as well. We are also looking forward to organising physical events, so we can meet each other face to face again.
Systemizing the collaboration with all stakeholders and topics might not be so visible, but is crucial for the reinforcement of the permanent service structures. At the heart of our actions is the internationalisation of companies and the employment of international professionals. These goals we and many of us are working to achieve.
There is a lot to look forward to, so stay tuned! But before that, have a wonderful summer-time!
